Ernesto Gaspar is a new composer based in the town of Boone, NC and is nestled cozily in the Appalachian Mountains. Some have described Ernesto’s music as “nostalgic” and catchy. He started his music education in middle school, playing in the band program. Transitioning from trumpet to euphonium, and finally settling on tuba, which he's played for more than 7 years. His Compositional journey began in high school when he had the opportunity to write a piece for his Christmas concert. Since then, it's been a passion and a great way to connect with his audience. During college, he experimented with many different groups and mediums. From Tuba-Euphonium choir to Video Game music/ensembles, he loves to dabble in anything and everything! Ernesto Gaspar has won several awards and has been in prestigious positions. Ernesto has won the Hayes School of Music Composition Competition twice in 2023 and 2024, one for Orchestra and one for Wind Ensemble. Ernesto also took initiative with the Appalachian Student Composers Club by being president for the 2023-2024 academic year. He's also made appearances at conferences for both tuba and composition. He's played at SERTEC 2022 with the Appalachian Tuba Euph Choir and has had work performed at MWRTEC in 2024 by esteemed Professional Tubist, Joseph Guimaraes. He teaches low brass and tuba for local high schools and in studio settings when he is not composing. He plays for the Watauga Community Band and the Appalachian Community Orchestra after serving as principal tubist with the Appalachian Symphony Band, Appalachian Symphony Orchestra, and Appalachian Wind Ensemble.
